Mateo had his nine-month check up. He is in the 80th percentile for height and the 50th for weight -- a huge drop from his six month visit. The doctor said she is not concerned as long as he still has a happy and healthy appetite, as she can sometimes see weight go down significantly once a baby gets mobile. Um... yeah. This dude is on the move in a big way.
It was a bit of a tricky visit, however, as we found out that he has an ear infection. He has had a cold/cough for over a month, and I have been to the doctor three times to be sure it wasn't developing into something more serious. This third visit revealed that the cold/cough that should just disappear on its own instead turned infectious, and he is being treated with antibiotics. It has been two days and he still has a serious cough, and I am nervous about him not getting better by the time we fly. I pray we see improvement tomorrow.
Meanwhile, we also learned that he is slightly anemic, so he is being put on iron supplements. Poor baby.
So overall, not the best visit, what with the poking and the prodding and the testing of the blood. But, developmentally he is doing everything he should be and then some, so the doctor says he is doing great. The poor guy's mouth is just exploding in teeth, which can't help the coughing situation any. The drolling and the jaw ache and then the sore throat -- ugh. It's a miracle he is still his usual cheery self.
Today was my last day at the BCS and I will admit to being a lazy, lazy worker. At one point I just straight up started shopping. About a half hour before I went home, my supervisor called everyone into the office. We have never had a big meeting like this but so it went. I dilly-dallied as per usual and then walked in to find they had a huge cake with "Good luck, Lee Ann!" etched into the frosting. It was so sweet and I was really touched... seeing a store full of people gather around to bid me farewell. I have only known them a few months but there are a few I will truly miss.
In the meantime, we are at 48 hours and counting. I have so much to do between now and then that I hired a babysitter to give me a hand with Mateo tomorrow so that I can get to packing. He will spend his last Friday at day care and then we will leave in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
And then, the insanity will begin.

I just got an apartment.
A good one. It is awesome.
And it is entirely thanks to my sister, who is essentially my one-woman welcoming committee. As a matter of fact, she is also responsible for my getting hired, as she sent me the link to the job posting. She is phenomenal.
I cleared out all of my job-search emails a few days ago. I am now taking out the house-hunting bookmarks. Life is grand.
Mateo and I leave in a week. We will be so, so sad to say goodbye to my parents; I have enjoyed living with them and know I will be a little lonely without them. But, new beginnings are also very exciting, and I am happy things seem to be falling into place thus far.
In other news, Mateo is getting four new teeth at once. Although grumpy on occasion, I have to say he is being a good sport overall.
I got a job.
Oh good God, time is flying. You are such a big man. We have been on all kinds of adventures together and I am so proud to be your mama. Did you know you are currently working on your fourth tooth? You're an eighth of the way there, my friend. That is terrifying.
I don't have the time or energy to write up a big summary of the crazy ways you have changed this month, but I do want to say that you are getting more and more charming every day. You are so much more interactive and smiley and giggly, and I love waking up and knowing that the first thing I will see is your goofy grin. Your hair is filling out and your legs are getting stronger. You have adjusted at day care and seemed to do well when I left you with the babysitter. You are just growing up quickly and the whole experience is bittersweet.
Also, I want to thank you for being a sport while we were out in Portland together. You were great on all four planes we had to take. You were good with all the new people and places and things going on, and you made my job out there a lot easier by just being an awesome kid. Plus, you made us all laugh when you chased 3-yr-old Will around the living room. Grandpa has officially started calling you Baby Tato.
We are both still getting over the tornado that was that trip, but luckily we have a full weekend to recover. That tooth better break through soon or we will both go crazy, but otherwise it should be a relaxing few days before the madness starts again. Enjoy your nine-month birthday as much as possible, even though it's tough with the tooth and the cold and the tired. I love you, big little man!
Oh goodness, I will be happy when this week is over. The days are starting at five, thanks to Mateo, and I am pretty much go! go! go! until eight or so. I did two interviews yesterday, one this morning, and have another this afternoon. I also toured a day care and am visiting a second this evening. I have spent lots of time on the phone, calling people and places and getting information and organizing. It is also tricky to do all of this in a town where I only sort of have my bearings. On tap for tomorrow includes another am interview (gotta figure out the childcare situation pronto), a second meet-up with a potential employer, and then an afternoon of calm before we get back on the airplane for seven hours of flying on Thursday.
The interviews themselves are going fine, although everyone out here is freakishly nice so I suppose I wouldn't be able to know otherwise. They just smile and make me feel good about my answers, no matter how poorly phrased and off-the-wall they may be. I love nice people. Especially when interviewing.
Mateo is having a good time with his aunt and uncle, too, so that's good. He was a doll on the way over here -- seven hours of flying with a layover after the fourth hour, and he held up like a champ. He even made some friends along the way. I sat next to a wonderful woman (named Lee, also a Libra) who loved on him in a major way. She has seven grandkids and looked like a hippie-ish type, just oozing good vibes from every pore. She took him in her arms, and then eventually so did the stewardesses, and I breathed for a moment and thanked the universe. It's been a bit tough on TayTay with the (we think) teething and the time difference and the lack of sleep while in transit, but he's doing alright. Sleeping a lot yesterday and today, which lets me do my thang, too.
But, I will be very, very happy to be able to put my feet up. On Saturday.
