From the BBC - A man has confessed to murdering and eating another man who allegedly volunteered to be killed, in a case that has shocked Germany.
The 41-year-old - who was remanded in custody on Wednesday - videotaped the murder, prosecutors said.
The victim, also in his 40s, was chopped into pieces at the killer's home in the central German town of Rotenburg, near Kassel.
Prosecutors in Kassel said the accused and the victim were apparently homosexuals who shared cannibalistic tendencies.
The German daily Bild reports that the victim, from Berlin, had seen an advertisement on the internet which said: "Seeking young, well-built men aged 18 to 30 to slaughter."
The victim, a computer engineer, then sold all his possessions including a car before disappearing, the paper reports.
The state prosecutor's office in Kassel said the man died from deep cuts to the neck. The killer then chopped up the body and kept the parts in his fridge.
Police believe the murder occurred in spring 2000.
They found deep-frozen human flesh, skeleton parts and video recordings at the scene.
Neighbour Joerg Paulusen, speaking to Reuters TV, said of the killer: "It was sort of clear to us that he had a different perspective on life than we did, but he was a normal person, to speak to him, drink a glass of beer with him - just like you and me."
The last alleged case of cannibalism in Germany was when a 33-year-old man on trial for robbery and murder in March 1995 claimed to have eaten his victim's innards, although his claim was never proven, the AFP news agency reports.

dude, I read about that here, as well. Didn't someone wonder about the original ad? what about whoever had to set that type? did he or she just type it into the computer and think, "Oh, this must be a joke ad"? I mean, they must have, right? But what kind of joke ad?
I'm trying to remember what we ate...oh...duck. Hm... you know, it was sort of tough.
At any rate, about the person typing in the ad. I had honestly never thought of that. And you're right, what the hell? Well, they said it was over the internet, so maybe he was the only person that actually typed it? But still...I bet that internet ad service is in deep shit now.
But I couldn't help but think about this whole case, you know...it's sort of like, I mean somewhat like, well, not really at all like, but SOMEWHAT like a really really gruesome Dr. Kevorkian type deal. I mean, the guy wanted to be eaten. He wanted to be killed and eaten. Should the killer/eater man go to jail for that? I mean, he should probably be put somewhere safe, or at least somewhere where he can't get at any more people, but I don't know if the guy is really a threat to society. Supposedly he was really um, diplomatic about the way he did the killing and eating.
what kind of satanic animal would place an ad to eat someone? This person is obviously experiencing deep phycological issues and i think people like him should be executed because they do not deserve to live. You wonder what makes people do this, i have no idea.

this is completely disgusting! what SANE person would place up an add offering to kill someone and eat them!!!! and what person would actually ANSWER that add! its all so sick! you would never think that this would happen in real life! its something you see in the movies!
